M&M Shrimp Co.

Founded by Henry “Duke” Gutierrez and Joe Suarez, M&M Shrimp Co. was established in 1969. The company, named for Joe and Duke’s respective wives, Mary and Melba, processed, packed and froze shrimp borrowing from each partner’s experience and family history in the seafood industry. Joseph Suarez brought with him the knowledge of marketing seafood he garnered from his own company “Suarez Seafood” which he opened

in 1927 on Lee Street in Biloxi. Duke serving as President of M&M, brought the experience of cold storage, processing and marketing he gained from his work in his family’s business “Biloxi Freezing Company”. M&M distributed shrimp nationally and met with great success.

Today, M&M Processing Co. is the result of a merger of the Mavar and Suarez/McLendon families, in 2006, and is located on Bayview Avenue in Biloxi. The merging of Biloxi Freezing Biloxi

Freezing and M&M Shrimp Company allowed the two historical facilities to move forward as one profitable company founded on nearly two centuries of experience.
