L. Lopez and Company was founded by Lazaro Lopez, one of the pioneers of the Mississippi Gulf Coast seafood industry, and his brother-in-law, T. P. Dulion. The company was a mercantile and ship chandlery serving Biloxi and neighboring cities at the burgeoning of what would become a booming industry. The department store provided not only housewares and personal items, but also materials, tools and parts necessary for the operation of the rapidly growing fleets serving the seafood processing factories.
