This vessel was built by the Mavar Boat Company as part of the Mavar Shrimp & Oyster Company fleet and was named for the patriarch of the Mavar family and its legacy in Biloxi's Seafood Industry.
I worked in the cat food canning section in early 70s. When talking with my foreman I mentioned having done quite a bit of welding. From there I was asked to do some of the work on a shrimp boat, I believe they called it the John Mavar Jr. I did a fair amount of welding on that boat, my work was fine and I had some fun. Good memories. Al Odden, Wahpeton ND.
