DORIS T / WAMP

DORIS T was built in the early 1900s by Joseph Trochesset, a native of Louisiana, but nearly lifelong resident of Biloxi. Joseph learned the craft of boat carpentry from both Martin Fountain and Jacob “Jacky Jack” Covacevich, two giants in the history of Mississippi Gulf Coast boatbuilding. The DORIS T was a small but useful shrimp boat with a length of about 25 feet. This was Joseph’s first attempt at building his own vessel, but he would go on to build the RUTH, RADIANCE, RADIO, OMEGA and others. Unfortunately, DORIS T was rammed from behind and damaged, but she was repaired and later renamed WAMP.
